The Walk
This was our second visit to The Wilbury.
We turned right out of the pub car park and then onto a footpath that took us downhill to Hitchin Lavender at Cadwell. The remnants of an event the previous weekend, for Halloween, were evident in the grounds, with pumpkin and skeletons decorating the area.
From Hitchin Lavender, we walked through the bridge under the East Coast Main Line to the edge of Ickleford, where we turned onto an unmetalled track for about 150 yards then took a footpath, at Lower Green, along the River Hiz. We paused for a short time near a bench on Lower Green at 2.1 miles into the walk.
From that bench we headed along field boundary footpaths until we got to 3 miles into the walk, where we crossed a recently ploughed and rolled field.
When we got to Snailswell, we turned west onto Snailswell Lane until we got to its end. There, we turned left onto another field edge footpath until we got to Ickleford. We crossed the village green and the Arlesey Road to a footpath that took us over the East Coast Main Line and back up the hill to the pub for the food that we had ordered before the start of the walk.
