The Walk

This was our seventh walk from The Raven in Hexton.

This walk was of two parts; the flat part and the hilly part! We started with the flat part from Hexton to Pegsdon. From the pub we turned left along Mill Lane. This road is normally very quiet, however, we must have chosen the wrong day to walk it as about 6 vehicles passed us. Mill Lane took us past the Mill Cottage and the dam (the mill was demolished in 1924). The Lane finished at Apsley End Road where we turned right towards the Barton Road (the B655).

We crossed Barton Road and started on the hilly part of the walk. Our first climb was up Noon Hill past some people who were shearing the sheep that graze the Pegsdon Hills and Hoo Bit Nature Reserve. When we got to Telegraph Hill where we joined the Icknield Way Path. At 3.6 miles into the walk we turned onto a footpath and started to descend towards Hexton.

The footpath took us through Mortgrove Farm to Steatley Road where we turned right, along the road for a few yards. From there we walked on more footpaths until we got near the B655 where we joined the Hexton Road, crossing the B655 and on to the pub for a welcome drink and our lunch.
